Issaquah, WA Car Accident Lawyer Recommends Getting Help ASAP

Video Transcript:

Rob Rosenthal:

If you're injured in a car accident, at what point should you talk to an injury lawyer? That's what we asked Washington state lawyer Mike Maxwell for this Ask the Lawyers' Quick Question.

Mike Maxwell:

The first thing that the person should do when they're in a car accident is make sure that they're taken care of with their health, which means, almost always, go to the emergency room, let the doctors check you out. After that, go home, the doctors will give you some sort of advice about follow-up care, follow-up with your primary care doctor, or follow-up with a chiropractor, or follow-up with a massage therapist or physical therapist. As soon as you've taken care of your medical needs, then you should take care of your legal needs. The sooner you can call a lawyer, the better. People who wait till the last minute to call lawyers oftentimes regret that decision. A lot of times, people think that they can settle their case with the insurance company on their own because the insurance visitor calls and they're very nice, "Oh, they're so nice, they'll settle the case," and then they'll realize that the insurance company is pretending to be nice in the hopes of settling for a low-ball amount.
