Should car drivers carry UM, UIM insurance coverage? We have Arizona Attorney Ryan Skiver in this, Ask the Lawyers Quick Question.

Ryan Skiver:

Yes, absolutely. UM and UIM, or Uninsured Motorist and Under-insured Motorist coverage are crucial, especially nowadays, where there are so many drivers out there, unfortunately that don't have insurance and or, the coverage limits are so low that they're not really gonna help you that much in regards to any injuries or damages that you suffer. Nowadays, when you go to the emergency room and stay overnight, you may use that full $25,000 third-party policy, which is the other driver's insurance policy, and the under-insured motorist allows you to protect yourself with your own insurance for levels above that. So it's always good to have that extra coverage in place for when the other driver doesn't have enough under-insured or when the other driver doesn't have any un-insured motorist coverage, because it allows you to really protect yourself and your interest because those bills can escalate really quickly especially when you're going to an emergency room or seeing doctors for serious injuries.
