Molly Hendrickson:

What are the rules for asylum seekers coming to the US? We asked attorney Cory Forman in this Ask The Lawyers Quick Question.

Cory Forman:

Well, that's where the refugee and asylum could be a bit different. Asylum seekers coming to the US are in essence refugees, in a certain respect, but if someone enters the United States, they have one year from the time they enter to apply for asylum, and they have to submit their application, there is an interview with an asylum officer, and it could be granted or it could be referred to immigration court for adjudication.
