Macon, GA Car Accident Lawyer Recommends UM/UIM Coverage

Video Transcript:

Rob Rosenthal:

Is UM UIM insurance required in Georgia and should you buy it? That's what we're asking Georgia lawyer, Christy Childers, for this Ask The Lawyers quick question.

Christy Childers:

So, in Georgia, the default is that you get uninsured motorist coverage, under-insured motorist coverage added on to your policy automatically in the same amount that you get for liability insurance. So, however much you get to cover somebody else, if it's your fault, you have that for yourself too, add it on as the default. However, and a lot of people don't even know what they're signing, your insurance company can get you to sign what I call a rejection form, they call it a selection form, where you can select coverage in an amount less than what you have to protect somebody else. I do not suggest that you select that box rejecting that coverage that the State of Georgia wants you to have.
