Where Are Colorado’s Most Dangerous Roads?

, ,

With the holidays not too far away and road trips on the horizon, now is a good time to review some data to help you prepare for traveling. An organization called ASecureLife, which reviews online security systems, analyzed three years’ worth of data on summer driving (2015 to 2017) to identify the most dangerous roads in the United States, based on the number of fatal car crashes from May through September.

The organization’s report was based on statistics gathered from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System.

The Most Fatal Roads in Colorado

I-25 was ranked as the most deadly highway in the state of Colorado. Between 2015-2017, 60 fatalities occurred in the summer months. The second most deadly highway in Colorado was I-70, with 51 fatalities. The third most deadly highway was I-76, with 28 fatalities.

While the causes of some accidents are unpredictable, such as drunk driving, there are still steps you can take to minimize your risk of getting into an accident on one of these dangerous highways. NHTSA recommends regular maintenance on your vehicle to keep it in top condition, including:

  • Tires
  • Lights
  • Cooling System
  • Fluid Levels
  • Belts
  • Hoses
  • Wiper Blades
  • Air Conditioning
  • Floor Mats
  • You can also minimize your risk of accidents by practicing defensive driving, avoiding distractions and by never driving impaired

What Do I Do If I’m Injured in a Colorado Car Accident?

If you do find yourself the victim of a car crash and suffer injuries as a result, the first thing you should do is seek medical attention. It is also important to document the scene of the crash to the best of your ability, including taking photos, collecting witness statements and contact information and ensuring that the police take a full report of what transpired in the leadup to the accident. All of this information will be vital to proving your personal injury claim.

If you do suffer injury in a Colorado car accident, speak to a personal injury attorney about your options.
