Colorado Injury Lawyer Recommends Using Health Insurance

Video Transcript:

Rob Rosenthal:

If you're injured in a car or a truck accident because of someone else's negligence, should you use your own health insurance at the hospital? We asked personal injury lawyer Tom Metier for this Ask the Lawyers Quick Question.

Tom Metier:

If you're hurt in an accident involving a car or a truck, and you end up in the hospital, you should use your own health insurance. That health insurance company has a duty to you, that's why you're paying those premiums for your health insurance, and the hospital may want to use the other driver's insurance. And the reason why that the hospital wants to use the other side's insurance is that it's gonna allow them to bill a higher amount, and it's going to take away from you the opportunity to access the other driver's insurance for other purposes, like your lost wages or replacement of your car, other things that are gonna come into play here.
