Jan Hinson was attracted to personal injury law because she doesn't like to see people taken advantage of.

Unfortunately, in many cases of personal injury, the injured party does not stand much of a chance of recuperating from their losses on their own. Injuries can be costly events for individuals and their families. Medical bills and lost wages are just the tip of the iceberg regarding potential damages.

Ongoing expenses due to the injury and emotional damages such as pain and suffering and loss of enjoyment of life can have negative impacts on a person’s life far into the future. Hinson believes in the importance of helping people and enjoys putting her expertise to work for the people whose suffering would otherwise be compounded by unscrupulous individuals, companies, and insurance providers.

She believes in pursuing justice for people who are truly injured and in need of help. She finds satisfaction when people are awarded their “just desserts”, whether that translates to an injured party receiving the compensation they deserve or the negligent party that caused the injury being held accountable; often, both are the case.

Law is a difficult field of work, but can be extremely rewarding.

Despite the inherent difficulties of working in a field like law that requires extensive education, training, and experience, Hinson believes that helping injured people under the field of law is the most rewarding thing in life. She has committed her life and practice to aiding people who find themselves in unfair situations, unsure how they are going to recover both physically and financially from something outside of their control.

This is why, like many personal injury attorneys, Hinson offers free consultations to her clients and works on a contingency fee basis. Working on contingency means that her clients do not owe any money for her services unless and until she wins their case, at which point she is paid out of a previously agreed upon percentage of the winnings. This allows individuals and families to focus on healing and recovery after a traumatic event, rather than worrying about how they are going to pay one more bill on top of the others. Hinson is dedicated to the health and wellbeing of her clients, both in the present and into the future; this is what has led to her success in the field of personal injury law and is a driving goal in her daily practice.

Christine Haas:

Why do you practice the type of law that you do?
We asked Georgia attorney Jan Hinson in this AskTheLawyers.com Quick Question.

Jan Hinson:

I do what I do because I like to help people, and I also don't like to see people taken advantage of. So those are the two reasons that I actually had for going into law. Law is complicated and it's hard, but when you are able to get just desserts for the people who are injured, for the people who truly are injured and need help, it's the most satisfying and rewarding thing that you can actually do in life.
