Kentucky Attorney Says “Call ASAP”

Video Transcript:

Rob Rosenthal:

If you're injured in a big-rig wreck, do you know why you need to contact a lawyer as soon as possible? We ask Kentucky attorney Tad Thomas in this AskTheLawyers™ Quick Question.

Tad Thomas:

In an 18-wheeler case, there are state and federal regulations that govern how commercial truck drivers are supposed to operate their vehicles, so it's important to get a lawyer who knows how to do trucking and commercial vehicle cases, not just car wreck cases. The reason why you call someone like that at the very beginning is that under those state and federal regulations, there are certain documents and certain information that has to be kept for a particular period of time. If you wait too long to call a lawyer, those documents may disappear. It's also important because if it's a severe collision, you want experts like an accident reconstructionist to go out to a scene and make sure that all of the information and evidence can be gathered from the scene as close to the time of the accident as possible.
