The Tropicana Casino and Resort parking garage collapsed in 2003, killing and injuring many of the workers building the garage.

Construction workers were building the parking garage for Tropicana Casino and Resort in 2003. While workers were pouring concrete around steel girders and support beams for the garage, the entire structure collapsed, injuring 21 workers and killing 4 more. Not only were the workers involved severely affected by the tragedies of that day, but their families were as well.

Aside from the families dealing with the permanent loss of their loved ones who died as a result of the accident, many of the workers sustained permanent injuries which lasted the rest of their lives. These permanent injuries significantly impacted their ability to work and engage with everyday life as they had before and it was essential they be compensated.

The settlement for the Tropicana garage collapse case was one of the biggest in history.

Eisenberg and his firm represented some of the construction workers injured in the Tropicana garage collapse, working to obtain the maximum compensation available for the injured workers and their families. The result was one of the biggest settlements in the history of the United States for an incident like this at over $100 million.

This settlement was necessary to ensure that the injured workers had not only the resources they needed to recover physically and financially in the present, but also to ensure they had the money for future medical bills, impairment of earning capacity, and the funds necessary to adjust their lifestyle in a way that allowed them to continue to fully engage with their life and loved ones.

If you or a loved one were injured or killed in a construction accident, you are not alone and may be eligible to receive compensation which could help pay your damages. Most of the attorneys who handle these cases work on a contingency fee basis, which means they can help at no cost to you. If you have been injured in a construction site accident, seek legal counsel to learn about your options and take the first steps toward physical and financial recovery.

It's another Quick Question from AskTheLawyers.com. We asked Philadelphia attorney Stewart Eisenberg to tell us about a parking garage collapse case he recently handled.

Stewart Eisenberg:

There were workers that were working on the parking garage in constructing the Tropicana Casino Hotel, and while they were working on that parking garage and pouring concrete around steel girders and steel supports, the whole garage collapsed and injured dozens of people. Killed a couple of people also, and other people were trapped by the concrete. It was horrendous, and we represented a number of people who were seriously injured and will be for the rest of their lives, and this Tropicana garage collapse case was one of the biggest settlements in the history of the country for one single injury and that was over $100 million.
