New York Immigration Attorney Explains How Long it Takes

Video Transcript:

Nancy Zambrano:

How long does it take to sponsor a family member for immigration to the US? That's what we're asking New York lawyer Cory Forman in this Ask the Lawyers quick question.

Cory Forman:

Well, it depends. If it's a US citizen that's sponsoring their spouse that's here and has a lawful admission, by the time you apply, you're looking at hopefully 18 months, you're immediately eligible. But if you're a lawful permanent resident sponsoring a spouse, it could be years. Years. It's broken up by categories of the relationship and the status of the person sponsoring.
