Rob Rosenthal:

If you're injured as a passenger in a New York City cab, do you know what to do? We're asking New York City lawyer Michele Mirman for an Ask the Lawyers Quick Question.

Michele Mirman:

First thing is, you gotta make sure you get that cab's information. At a minimum, you need the plate number. In addition, you should make sure that you know exactly where your accident happened, because you're gonna wanna get a police report and in New York City, each location is governed by a different precinct, and the precinct is the one that makes out the police report. Next, in New York City as well, you are entitled to no-fault insurance that pays your medical bills. People these days take Lyft, Uber, Via, a variety of other private car services, which are a type of cab, and again, you must make sure if you are in an accident you have the information on the vehicle and where it happened, so you can get the insurance information and get the police report, so you can start a lawsuit should you need to.
