What are the first steps someone with a prior felony conviction should take if they want to restore their civil rights? We ask attorney Michelle Martin in this Ask the Lawyers Quick Question.

Well, the first thing they should do is make sure that all your court fines and fees have been paid, make sure that you don't have any outstanding warrants and before... I guess before or after you do that, you contact a lawyer to see if they can maybe do a quick 15-minute consultation to tell you whether or not those things have already been taken care of.
