What are some of the ways a person could get a Green Card in New York City and should you use an attorney? We asked New York City lawyer Cory Forman for this Ask the Lawyers Quick Question.

Always have a lawyer help you do it, especially now as immigration forms and questions have become more complicated and deliberately so. You can get it through employment, you can get it through a family member... Those are the primary ways. Having a US citizen spouse, parent or child who's over 21 would make that person immediate relatives because of other... As long as other conditions are met, you may be immediately eligible to be sponsored for, but there's a lot of different ways and there's a lot of complications in the law. Definitely it's much more than just filling out a form and sending it into the US government, you start doing that, and if you take that approach for many people, all that means is a red flag and have the government watching you.
