Rob Rosenthal:

Does it cost you anything to talk to a lawyer about your accident or injury? Let's ask Alaska lawyer Mark Choate for this Ask the Lawyers Quick Question.

Mark Choate:

It doesn't. Lawyers that do accident injury work for injured people and their families almost always work on what's called a contingency fee, which means that they'll only get paid if they recover money for the injured person or their family. So it doesn't cost any money. This is a business where depending on the injuries, there can be large recoveries, tens of thousands to even millions of dollars, so lawyers are incentivized, they like good cases and they will meet with you for free, it won't cost you a dollar to talk with them and consult and decide whether or not you wanna work with them.
