How does the US determine refugee status? We asked attorney Cory Forman in this Ask the Lawyers Quick Question.

Cory Forman: 

Well, the refugee application process is done through the UN, it's similar to the asylum process where someone will have to show that they are being targeted for persecution, or are at risk of persecution based on something like a so... Being part of a particular social group or a political opinion, and that the government is unwilling or unable to control the prosecutor, and or that the government itself could be the persecutor.
