Maryland Lawyer Says Insurance Tries to Low-Ball Victims

Video Transcript:

Tom Mustin:

Why should someone hire an attorney after being injured in an auto accident, if they can make the insurance claim on their own? We ask Maryland attorney, Gwen-Marie Davis Hicks, for this Ask The Lawyers Quick Question.

Gwen-Marie Davis Hicks:

I can tell you from my experience, you make the insurance claim on your own, you're probably gonna have a... They're gonna low-ball you. It's just what it is. You typically cannot go to court, and so because of that fact, people aren't filing lawsuits on their behalf. You get low-balled all the time. And oftentimes too, people think, "Oh, let me just do it myself. I don't wanna pay an attorney to do it." Oftentimes you end up making less than if you had an attorney. So you wanna have an attorney so you can get the compensation, build the case, and have the recovery that you deserve. Some of these injuries that people experience are lifetime injuries, so it's important to have an experienced attorney to get you the compensation that you deserve.
