Signs of Abuse Harder to Spot During Pandemic

Rob Rosenthal:

Does COVID-19 make nursing home abuse harder to spot? We ask Texas attorney John Sloan in this AskTheLawyers™ Quick Question.

John Sloan:

Absolutely. In any situation, accountability is very important, and family members many times can help be an advocate for their loved one in a nursing home. Because we're locked out—and this affects me personally because I haven't seen my mom since early March because her nursing home was very proactive and stopped the visitation early on—it's a situation where you've got to depend, you’ve got to have faith that the people that are there at the nursing home are going to have your loved one’s best interest at heart, and sadly, unfortunately, sometimes that just does not turn out to be true.
