Consult an Admiralty Attorney for Legal Advice

Admiralty law, also known as maritime law, refers to the body of law governing maritime issues. It involves both US law and international law.

Injured ship workers, dock workers, cruise ship passengers, offshore oil workers, commercial fishermen, and anyone who is injured at sea could have a claim under maritime law. Some common claims involve:

  • Jones Act violations
  • Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA) violations
  • Maintenance and cure issues
  • Failure to pay fair wages or overtime
  • Denied benefits for injuries
  • Passengers injuries aboard a commercial vessel, including cruise ship accidents

Since admiralty law involves a combination of state, federal, and international law, it requires an experienced attorney to handle these complex claims.

To learn more about your rights under admiralty law, consult with an experienced admiralty law or maritime law attorney today. Many attorneys in this field offer free consultations so you can receive free legal advice with no obligation.

Rob Rosenthal: If you contract COVID-19 while you're on a cruise, could you have a legal claim against the cruise line? We asked Florida attorney Jack Hickey in this AskTheLawyers.com Quick Question.

Jack Hickey: The answer is yes, there's a possibility for a claim. There's a couple of questions. One is, can you show that you got COVID-19 from what they did or did not do on the cruise ship? That's number one. The cruise line certainly wanted to deny COVID-19, did not take the steps they should have in the beginning. They avoided telling people about it, they did not have their members wear masks, specifically in the beginning, it's unbelievable now. Number two is, if you suffered a little bit and got better 100%, it's probably not a significant injury, but if you have been on a ventilator, you're pretty much not going to be the same for the rest of your life.

So this thing can really cause significant injury and yes, there can be a lawsuit there.
