Trial For L.A. Council Member Accused of Sexual Harassment Expected to Begin in November


A picture of a courtroomA judge has a set a trial date in the sexual harassment case filed for a longtime aide to city council member Joe Huizar. According to the Los Angeles Times, the trial is expected to begin on November 10.

Huizar is accused of harassing former aide Francine Godoy, whose attorneys are reportedly looking to call as many as 20 witnesses in the case.

Godoy claims that she refused to provide Huizar with “sexual favors” and was later retaliated against and forced to quit her job with the city’s Bureau of Sanitation.

Over 11,300 sexual harassment charges were filed nationally in 2011, according to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
