Pfizer Pushing For Over-the-Counter Version of Lipitor


A picture of consumer protectionPfizer plans on selling an over-the-counter version of the cholesterol drug Lipitor, according to the Wall Street Journal.

This alarms some because Lipitor has been linked to Type 2 diabetes.

The drug manufacturer has reportedly started a “1,200-patient clinical trial to test if consumers taking a nonprescription Lipitor get their own blood tests to see if the medicine is improving their cholesterol, and then make the right decisions based on the results.”

Aside from Type 2 diabetes, the drug has been linked to cardiovascular disease.
