New Bike Path Opened in Oceanside

A new bike lane will connect Oceanside Boulevard to Wisconsin Avenue. The corridor is a dream come true for bike commuters wishing to travel from downtown to the Oceanside Transit Center. “A lot of people want to be able to bike to the transit center,” said Oceanside Mayor Jim Wood. “We’re working to make the city more bicycle and pedestrian friendly.” The new Oceanside corridor is not an isolated development, but “just one part of a larger regional network,” said a representative of the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), a regional planning organization. “The link to the transit center is such an important connection.”

The new corridor is a step towards completing the long awaited Coastal Rail Trail, a 44-mile route connecting Oceanside and San Diego. The path will be constructed piece by piece over many years. San Diego is growing to be a shining example of how commuter infrastructure can reduce traffic, clear up more parking and encourage alternative transportation.
