Rob Rosenthal:

How common is medical malpractice in an emergency room? We ask Pennsylvania attorney Nancy Winkler for this AskTheLawyers™ Quick Question.

Nancy Winkler:

Unfortunately, it's very common. People go into the emergency room obviously with emergency situations, life-threatening many times, and emergency room physicians look for what the presenting problem is. But sometimes what happens is they're not looking at the whole picture; there may be other things that they find incidentally, for example, in a test X-ray, and they never tell the patient about it, and that can also be a life-threatening situation. There are medical errors that are made all the time with medications as well.
