On February 26, three people were killed and three others injured after a Maui County plane crashed and burst into flames on Lanai, according to KHON Local 2. Authorities say the group had been on Lanai earlier that evening and had chartered a return flight on Maui Air, which left at 9:05 p.m. At approximately 9:30 p.m., emergency dispatchers received a 911 call from a passenger on the plane who said he had been in a crash. Maui County officials said the deceased included a Maui Air pilot and two Department of Planning employees. Three crash survivors were airlifted to the Queens Medical Center on Oahu after the crash with burn injuries.
