When a company allows a dangerous condition to persist on their property, they are responsible for any resulting accidents.

Every property owner owes a duty of care to the people who pass through their property, especially in the case of business owners. When conditions exist in which a slip and fall accident is likely to occur and the business owner fails to take notice and/or correct the condition, the company could be liable in the event of a slip and fall accident.

It is essential that companies take the necessary safety precautions to protect their customers from injuries in this way. Often putting out warning signs, making sure the right type of flooring is in place, or replacing a crack in the sidewalk or a broken step is enough to prevent these high-risk situations.

The consequences of a slip and fall accident can be life-altering.

While a slip and fall might sound like a minor incident, it is not uncommon for these falls to result in serious injuries including traumatic brain injuries (TBI). These injuries can be catastrophic and life-altering, resulting in a myriad of expenses for the victim including medical bills, lost wages, rehabilitative therapy, not to mention future life care expenses.

When someone is seriously injured due to a company’s negligence, the company should be held accountable to provide compensation to aid the victim in their treatment and recovery. These businesses know how to prevent environments in which slip and falls are more likely, but often the cost of decreasing that risk inspires the property owner to put-off making repairs or addressing the problem in an effective manner.

Hickey and his team represent honest, hard-working people injured in unjust situations.

There is an unfortunate stigma surrounding some categories of personal injury claims, such as slip and fall lawsuits. They have been called frivolous by people who worry that the victims of these accidents are trying to make a quick dollar. However, Hickey maintains that his team and attorneys like them seek to represent honest, hard-working people who have been unexpectedly injured in a situation that could have been avoided by proper attention from a business owner.

Individuals considering filing a slip and fall lawsuit must answer a variety of questions allowing the attorney to get to know them and their situation to decide if they have a viable case. If you or a loved one were injured in a slip and fall, you do not have to struggle with the subsequent expenses alone. Contact an attorney to discuss your eligibility for compensation in a slip and fall claim.

And we see situations where they know about a problem, a leak, a situation where a certain tile isn’t the right tile and there's condensation, let's say, that builds up. They knew about it, they knew it was slippery, nobody bothered to change anything. It's a matter of money, it's a matter of not doing it.

That's not frivolous, that's a situation where the company is at fault. If somebody slips and falls and gets traumatic brain injury and changes the rest of their young life, well they're responsible for that and everything that goes along with that.

Our clients are people who have been injured with life-changing injuries, as I said, and we really do look for and only represent the honest, hard-working person who has suffered those injuries.

We look at it, though. We ask the person a lot of questions, we try to get to know the person in the situation, what the company did and that's important.

So these cases can be very, very significant and very serious.
