Pressure cookers have the potential to cause severe explosions and burn injuries.

The contents of a pressure cooker can reach 212 degrees Fahrenheit, far hotter than the temperature of boiling water due to the pressure it is under when the lid is closed. Due to the hot contents, these cookers are supposed to contain a safeguard that prevents the lid from being opened while the contents are under pressure. However, these safeguards have proven to be unreliable, and pressure cooker users have sustained severe explosion as well as second and first-degree burn injuries as a result of this product defect.

Instant Pot is not the only company linked to pressure cooker injuries.

Originally, Instant Pot was the only pressure cooker manufacturer linked to these safeguard defects, but recently McLaughlin has seen injuries pop up all over the country linked to pressure cookers from other manufacturers as well. This indicates a safety risk in the pressure cooker design.

Anybody injured by a defective product has a claim against the manufacturer.

Whether you or someone you know is one of the many injured by a defective pressure cooker or by a different product entirely, if the injury occurred as a result of a defective product, you have a claim against the manufacturer.

Make sure to keep the product in the same form it was when it caused the injury, as well as keeping all packaging and instructions it came with if at all possible, because this could later help in your case. It’s vital that you contact an attorney right away so they can begin preserving evidence to build your case and seek the compensation you deserve to cover your damages. If finances are a concern, it may be helpful to note that most personal injury/product defect attorneys work on contingency, which means you don’t owe any out-of-pocket costs. In fact, you don’t pay at all unless they win.

Video Transcript:

The problem with the pressure cookers, the electric pressure cookers, is that people mistakenly believe they are not under pressure. They go to open it and it’s supposed to have a safety interlock so it can’t be opened. So, you figure, “Okay, if it’s under pressure, it’s not going to open.” But they open under pressure and when that happens, the contents literally explode out of the pot with the sudden change of atmospheric pressure. Most of these people end up with second degree burns and first degree burns because the scalding contents that are heated to temperature hotter than the temperature at which water boils because it’s been under pressure. So, you get contents coming out at well over 212 degrees. I had originally only found this with one company, the Instant Pot. But now I have found clients in various parts of the country that have pressure cookers made by other companies that are having a similar experience. We can hold them liable for the injuries that they caused. Some people go through a lot of pain with this. Obviously, some people have scars for the rest of their life. Anybody that gets injured by a defective product has a claim against the manufacturer or the distributor or the seller for having put a defective product up there. What we can do is get them compensation for what they went through.
