Are Juul pods dangerous?

Most of us are familiar with the vaping manufacturer Juul, which has recently come under fire for causing addiction and injury to its clients through its products. The main question ruling this issue is whether the company knew about the dangers of its products before making them available to the public, and if so, do Juul clients have the right to legal recourse?

This Quick Question video features Wayne Parsons, a personal injury attorney with Wayne Parsons Law Office in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, who maintains that Juul's products are “dangerous as designed and intended”.

Juul vape pods are still marketed as a healthier alternative tobacco product to smoking cigarettes, but this has shown to be untrue.

Juul vape pods, like cigarettes, contain nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive and harmful substance in itself, not to mention the other harmful chemicals included in the Juul vape pods. One of Juul's arguments for the positive impact of their product is that smokers can wean themselves off nicotine by using their pods. However, this goes entirely against the idea of repeat customers, a necessary aspect for almost every business, when they publicly express that their products are intended for current smokers, not for nonsmoking adults. Understandably, the contradiction in logic here is difficult to swallow.

Juul knows about the potential of its products to cause addiction and injury, yet continues to sell their products.

Juul offers their vape pods in a variety of flavors, which is part of what makes them so attractive among young people. Juul is credited with the surge in purchasing and use of e-cigarettes in the last several years. Parsons maintains that Juul was fully aware from the beginning of the serious health risks posed to their users by their products.

Juul admitted to knowingly shipping contaminated pods.

A former Juul executive came forward after reportedly being fired for calling out senior executives at Juul for knowingly letting contaminated pods ship out, and then refusing to issue a recall. This former executive also maintained that the company wanted to sell pods that were over a year old against his own advice, without printing an expiration or “best by” date on the product. If this former Juul executive is to be believed, there are some major moral oversights going on within the company regarding the health and welfare of their clientele.

If you or a loved one have suffered health problems as a result of using a Juul vape product, you may have the right to a personal injury claim.

I’m Leslie Rhode with AskTheLawyers.com™. Was Juul aware of the dangers its products might have before vaping related injuries began to make headlines? We spoke to Honolulu attorney Wayne Parsons and he said…

Wayne Parsons:
These products are dangerous as designed and intended. The nicotine is a well-known addictive substance. We’ve all known people who were smokers and tried to quit smoking. They were addicted to nicotine. The same problem will happen with Juul as intended. And it’s kind of funny because Juul, there’s a whole controversy now over some executive at Juul who’s admitted that they shipped out millions of pods that had defects in them, that the material in them was incorrect, but they shipped them out anyway.
