In most workers’ comp cases, there has to be a specific “accident” that took place to gain benefits. However, a back injury does not need an “accident,” only a specific traumatic event. For example, lifting a box as part of your job duties that throws out your back is not thought of as an “accident,” but it would likely qualify the person for workers comp in North Carolina.
