According to WFIE NBC 14, the demolition of the Goodyear boiler plant in Madisonville, Kentucky, is on hold while the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) conducts an asbestos investigation.
“They told us there is no danger for any of the surrounding people as far as air quality…unless [they are] in the immediate vicinity of the site,” stated a Madisonville city official. “That’s why we got the site locked down.”
S&S Salvage, the company that had been handling the demolition, did not have the proper permits to handle the demolition, according to Madisonville city officials.
